Burst Pipes in Pre-War Buildings: Why Old Plumbing Fails and What to Do

Why old plumbing is living on borrowed time

A great many of the buildings in West New York and the surrounding Hudson County towns were built before the war, and a fair number still carry plumbing that is decades past its intended service life. The galvanized steel supply lines and cast-iron drains common in that era were good materials in their day, but they corrode from the inside out, and the clock on them has long since run down. Then handle power safely, staying out of any water that may have reached electrical and cutting power to the affected area if it can be done without standing in water.
